I’ve never liked nor subscribed to the phrase “fake it til you make it”... It’s just got such a sleazy and dishonest vibe to it. I’ve heard it in various scenarios my entire life, but it’s been most troubling in recent years in our creative landscape. Too many shortcuts nowadays... Too many “tools” to have your work look like _______ at the click of a button... Too much style biting and trend hopping just to get those clicks... Don’t let your tools & shortcuts become your crutch. If you like a style, learn how it was achieved versus just buying the prepackaged style kit. Take the long way. You might learn something. Practice might not always make perfect, but it does make you stronger and you’ll be a better designer from it. Sorry for the salty language, kids. Create, create, and then create some more.
